As open to revelation as babies

without comments

All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. (Matthew 11: 27)

There’s a secret about–now it’s an open secret, but even so, no one really seems to get it. God has given over every divine truth, every divine shaft of light to God’s own son, Jesus, who is the only one who truly knows who God is, who knows what God is like. Except, and here’s the secret: Jesus chooses to reveal a bit about God, about God’s love, God’s compassion, God’s wrath, God’s desire to engage to his own followers. You shall know the truth, Jesus says, and it will make you free.

Jesus hides this from the wise, and tells it to babies, who don’t know any better than to trust the one holding them, protecting them. Let me be wise in your secret ways, in loving trust. I am tired of my own foolish wisdom.
