Tweet creed
Shun youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace … Have nothing to do with stupid and senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly , correcting opponents with gentleness… (Context: 2 Timothy 2:1-26)
David “Lingamish” Ker put out a call for a “Tweet Creed,” or a creedal statement in 140 characters (the limit for a ‘tweet’ or short message on Twitter.com) that, if someone would sincerely confess it, you would accept that person as a brother or sister in Christ.
I like this idea a lot for a couple of reasons. One is that creedal statements have tended to divide Christians rather than unite them (think of the filioque clause controversy, for example), and this is a call for a statement that unites us. Second, we have good reason to use short creed for we have a number of examples in the Scripture (the Shemma, “You shall love the Lord…”, “Jesus is Lord”).
Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at a 140-characters or fewer creed. It beats stupid and senseless controversies! Feel free to put one in the comments section.
A nice challenge. How’s this:
Jesus, Son of God, died for my sins. Through Jesus’ sacrifice we have eternal life and need to live in peace and practice love towards all. The Bible is our guide.
