Light (in winter)

The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you by night; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (Isaiah 60: 19)

Today is (in the northern hemisphere) the shortest day of the year. Here on the west coast of Michigan there wasn’t a lot of light today, anyway–a dreary first day of winter, with overcast skies and a cold steady rain for much of the day. I’m sure there was a sun up there somewhere, but I didn’t see it. It’s nighttime; I’m sure there’s a moon up there, too, but I can’t see it. It would be just a sliver anyway.

Winter can be gloomy.

But there’s light; the Lord is our light and our glory.

And someday–nothing but light and glory.
