Jesus’s mission

I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. (Isaiah 49: 6 b)

I’ve never mentioned that Sip of Scripture’s theme for 2006 has been mission:

Selections for 2006 are chosen with an emphasis on mission—God’s mission activity all through the world. For additional mission-oriented resources, go to http://www.thirdway.com/resources and do a search for “Mission.” Sign up for a daily e-mail subscription.

Today’s passage is part of God’s plan for his servant (by which Christians can’t help but understand Jesus). God will, said Isaiah, and did, say Christians, send out a bright message of salvation to all corners of the earth–not just to Israel (but to Israel, too), but to all in need of good news. On the day before Christmas, it’s good to remember that not only did Jesus bring good news, he was the good news.

Thank you, Jesus. As you taught us to pray to your Father:

Your kingdom come and your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
