Jesus Christ, both God and slave

A scripture on the nature of Jesus: Jesus is affirmed God, and yet he became a slave:

And think the same way that Christ Jesus thought: Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God. He gave up everything and became a slave, when he became like one of us. (Philippians 2: 5-7)

From Article 2 of the Confession of Faith from a Mennonite Perspective:

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Word of God become flesh. He is the Savior of the world, who has delivered us from the dominion of sin and reconciled us to God by humbling himself and becoming obedient unto death on a cross.
